The Gyumri Technology Center (GTC) is pleased to announce a new workshop series titled “Digitizing Hand-Painted Advertisements: Preserving Gyumri’s Urban Typography.” This initiative is part of GTC’s Black Box Hub and is being carried out in collaboration with Armineh’s Library.

Gyumri is celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and distinctive architecture. Among its many unique features are hand-painted signs and advertisements—artistic remnants of the city’s urban past that reflect local traditions and creative expression. This workshop series aims to explore and digitally preserve these signs while maintaining their stylistic authenticity and raising public awareness of their cultural value.

Participants in the workshops will engage in a range of activities, including:

  • Researching and reimagining vintage hand-painted signs from Gyumri
  • Digitally recreating these signs while retaining their visual identity
  • Exploring local dialect and cultural expressions through design

One of the core projects of the series is the creation of a “Gyumri Dialect Dictionary”, developed in partnership with Armineh’s Library. This initiative will blend local linguistic elements with creative visual representation.

As part of the program, participants will also study calligraphy techniques, enhancing their ability to present their work in expressive and culturally resonant ways.

This creative and community-oriented workshop series is a step toward documenting, celebrating, and preserving Gyumri’s unique urban language and aesthetic through digital innovation.
